The Hawkes Bay Rugby Academy
The Hawkes Bay Rugby Union has recently restructured it's Academy to:
1. Provide local Hawkes Bay rugby players with the best high performance rugby development programme in the country.
2. Prepare players to play ITM Cup rugby at a younger age.
3. Develop a relationship with players and parents from a younger age.
Talented players are identified at Year 8 (school) or out of the Ross Sheild Tournament each year and each subsequent year up until Year 12.
The players that are selected for the programme from Year 9 to Year 12 are invited to complete the year long programme. Academy players are developed in conjunction with the NZRU 6 pillar development programme (Technical, Tactical, Physical, Mental Skills, Nutrition and Leadership). As the players progress from year to year, the commitment required progresses also.
At the end of each year, a review is conducted with each player and at that stage, players are either exited from the programme or invited to continue in the subsequent year.
Players that complete Year 12 in the Academy are then invited into the 'ProZone' which transitions players from school rugby to ITM Cup Rugby.
We are committed to developing our best local players. We are committed to keeping our best local players in the Hawkes Bay. We are committed to making the Hawkes Bay Magpies the most successful ITM Cup province in the country.
